Competition Achievements: Kap competed only occasionally, but won trials at the ProNovice and Ranch level. Kap was our main farm dog, who could move any sheep, even the most stubborn of rams, calmly and without stress.
November 2, 2011: Sadly, after a short, mystifying illness; tests revealed large, advanced stage tumors in Kap's stomach. He was laid to rest on a hill overlooking his flock. Rest well, Kap.
Kap was the 4th and last born puppy from the 2000 Jess x Imp. Ken litter. He was a nice blend of his sire and dam. His "hound dog" looks were very much like daddy Ken as was Kap's quiet confidence on sheep. Kap would bravely face, turn and walk in on a nasty ewe or charging ram in a very workmanlike fashion. On the other hand, he was like his mother in that he had no natural pace and had more push than stop. Alas, when Kap was in his prime training years, I was still a beginner and could never quite get a handle on him, so Kap only really got partially trained, and never had enough obedience or finesse to be successful at trials.
Kap had a fantastic temperament, good with other dogs, easy going and quiet - he would spend hours just hanging out while we were fencing, gardening, chain sawing....He was the ultimate buddy. He could work all day, never tiring.
