Bean is the first dog in the household that is not of our breeding in 20 years. I have admired Dave Young's Pic (out of Mary Thompson's Open trial winner Beauty by Amanda Milliken's talented Monty, whose name speaks for himself) for years. She is a sensible working farm dog, talented trial dog (Multi-time Kingston SDT Finalist; the first time at age 2) and has a lovely, friendly temperament towards people and dogs. I've always had a soft spot for her, so when I learned that for her last litter, she would be taken to Lori Cunningham's superstar Matt to be bred, I jumped on board.
Lori's Matt ran in both the Nursery Final Round and the Double Lift Final in the USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals in Belle Grove, VA. He continued to place and win at many open trials over his lengthy career. Matt and Lori are still winning trials in 2018 at age 10, with hardly a lame step. His stamina is incredible - he has run in a double lift final and been up 10 minutes later to perform his duties at set out. He is a devoted companion with a friendly, easy going temperament. He has produced several talented offspring, all with his definitive stamp.
I chose Bean at 4 weeks old; I was certainly drawn to her, but mainly I chose her for her markings (she was the only female with a white blaze). She is an easy puppy - bold and curious and friendly. She has begun her training on sheep and is biddable, natural and thinks things through. She has begun some agility foundation training for fun and enjoys shaping games and is quick and bright.
I am sure there will be lots of future news and brags on this page! Stay tuned...
